Facts about Izzat's disappearance

  • Family resided in Egypt between Mid 80's thru early 90's
  • Senior member of the NFSL, an opposition movement committed to restoring democracy in Libya and uprooting Libya's dictatorship.
  • Evening of March 12, 1990, taken for routine questioning by Colonel Mohamed Hassan, has not been seen by our family since then.
  • At the time of disappearance, sons were the following age: Youcif 6; Ahmed 5; and Bashir 5 weeks old.
  • Case has been thoroughly documented by reputable human rights organizations and governmental reports including: US State Department's Country Report on Human Rights Practices, Amnesty International, United Nations Human Rights Committee, Human Rights Watch, the Libyan League for Human Rights, the Arab Network for Human Rights Information, and the Arab Organization for Human Rights.
  • Family recently received letters from Izzat (from Abu Salim Prison) with his distinct handwriting dated 1993 describing his capture, interrogation, and then handover to the Libyan Government.
  • US intelligence reports corroborate Izzat's handwritten letter.
  • 2 former political prisoners recently released from Libya, confirmed that they saw Izzat in Abu Salim Prison and are willing to testify to that.
